About Geronimo Springs Museum
Located in Truth or Consequences, a visit to Geronimo Springs Museum is a must for anyone interested in learning about Southwest New Mexico history. The museum showcases a variety of permanent and rotating exhibits featuring well-preserved and rare artifacts. Here, you’ll find prehistoric fossils, arrowhead displays, a world-class ancient Mimbres pottery collection, and a Woolly Mammoth skull. Take a step back in time and see tools created by the area’s first inhabitants. Discover which items were used for hunting, fighting, or preparing meals. It’s a fascinating collection! Then, during your stay at Geronimo Trail Guest Ranch, you will visit 1,000-year-old Mimbres archeological sites where you can still find pottery shards and other artifacts right on the ground at your feet! All artifacts must be left where they are of course, so they are there for the next person to enjoy.
Another one of our favorite exhibits is the Apache Heritage Room. Learn all about Native American history while you browse engaging displays. There is even a life-sized wax replica of Apache warrior, Geronimo, himself! Next, head over to the museum’s Hardcastle Cabin. This real, old-time log cabin was moved from the Black Range Mountains to its current spot in the 1990s. However, the cabin itself dates back to the 1930s or ‘40s. Inside are items that reflect the lifestyle of that era, including trunks, a stove, cooking utensils, and other paraphernalia.
